Bespoke Kitchen Extension

The objective for this big, bright, open bespoke kitchen expansion was to keep it just that – beautifully spacious, while ensuring you’re always enjoying easy views of the landscaped garden. With so much space, it’s easy to cram too much in or incorporate fussy details. But the result here is clean yet warm, stylish yet comfortably understated.

THOUGHTFUL DETAILS

The biggest challenge to open space was the supporting pillar. So we designed an island that seamlessly absorbs the pillar in its smooth corian surface. The large curve of the seating area leads the eye into open space, with the result that the sense of open-ness is unaffected. Importantly, the island’s prep areas are positioned near the cookers, yet face directly onto the garden and social area.

FUNCTIONALITY

We positioned the major work surfaces beneath the skylights so that one enjoys an abundance of natural light while cooking. The tall units – neatly tucked away – provide a hidden cupboard with extra space, while eliminating the L-shaped corner. We also helped the owners select the latest integrated Miele appliances.

MATERIALS

For the work surfaces we chose corian, not just for its space-enhancing quality, but because it eliminates any joins for a flawless finish. The sink is also corian so nothing breaks up this design. Reflecting the natural tones of the garden and fields beyond, we chose solid oak cabinetry comprising a warm, light oak, complemented by natural stone flooring. Brushed chrome knobs allude to the modernity of the appliances.
